GUIDE TO THE PHOTOS FIELD IN THE INTERNET PINBALL DATABASE
The photos field of the database is coded according to the format:
KEY(page;description) or
KEY(pages;descriptions) for multiple pictures in same citation
where the KEY field corresponds with the Pinball Bibliography and
page and description are optional. A legend for these citations is
provided at the end of this page for those without access to the
Pinball Bibliography. The format for this field thus allows:
For individual pictures in one citation:
KEY
KEY(page)
KEY(page;description)
KEY(;description) [NOTE: the semicolon is required]
For multiple pictures in one citation the pages and descriptions will be
separated by commas (with no trailing spaces!):
KEY
KEY(page1,...,pageN)
KEY(page1,...,pageN;description1,...,descriptionN)
KEY(;description1,...,descriptionN)
The lack of a description could mean one of two things; either the person
didn't take note of what type of picture it was or the photo is the default
picture which is a general picture of the game. In multiple picture
references "Game" is used for the default picture if necessary.
Note also that BG and PF are used in the description field to represent
backglass and playfield, respectively. Descriptions should be kept short
but if necessary are allowed to be descriptive such as "PF-partial detail
of xxx" or "BG-unstarred version" or "detail of xxx mechanism" or whatever
else you deem appropriate.
For instance:
M1 indicates that at least one photo appears in the October
24, 1985 issue of Advertising Age in the article titled
"Picking a Pinball Winner" by Lenore Skenazy (more
information is available on this article by cross
referencing the KEY with the Pinball Bibliography).
PA(78) indicates that a photo appears on page 78 of "Pinball Art"
PA(78;Flyer) indicates that a photo of the flyer appears on page 78 of
"Pinball Art"
M1(;Flyer) indicates that a photo of the flyer appears in the October
24, 1985 issue of Advertising Age in the article titled
"Picking a Pinball Winner" by Lenore Skenazy (more
information is available on this article by cross
referencing the KEY with the Pinball Bibliography).
PA(78,79) indicates that photos appear on pages 78 and 79 of "Pinball
Art"
PA(78,79;BG,PF) indicates that a photo of a backglass appear on page 78 and
a photo of the playfield appears on page 79 of "Pinball Art"
M1(Game,Flyer) indicates that a picture of the game and flyer appear in
the October 24, 1985 issue of Advertising Age in the
article titled "Picking a Pinball Winner" by Lenore
Skenazy (more information is available on this article by
cross referencing the KEY with the Pinball Bibliography).
