Did we ever, in the times this question
comes up, establish any kind of consensus?
It's not like AYBS?, where I was among
the huge majority who picked "Dear Sexy
Knickers" as their favourite episode.
What would our consensus be? I'm
figuring "Orbit" or "Rumours of Death,"
maybe "Blake." (OK, can't resist -
for me, Orbit, closely followed by
Gold, The Way Back, and, ah, episode 2.
And for obsession no 2, the best 'Allo 'Allo
eps are the pilot and "Hitler Youth.")

[Jane Elizabeth]:
<<I picked Sand because I enjoyed the development of Servalan's
character and the fact that it showed she had a weaker side as well
as the more common ruthless one.>>

That was only the effect of the Sand.
I hope. Bad grrls shed no tears,
let alone fall for *Tarrant.*

Calm down. My maternal instincts don't,
unfortunately, resemble those of Ripley
in Aliens. Instead, picture Baby Spice
defending one of her cuddly toys.

(I think my Soolin devotion shows
distinct signs of wistful thinking.
I'm more like pre-bad-grrl Cancer.)

Yep. But if he *could* do it I don't
think he would have been whining he
wanted to. OK, I'll abandon logic and
just wail "But he really is nice...."
Practicing to audition for the Tarrant

I've a friend who's only seen "Orbit," with
no B7 context and no one with her.
*She* didn't see Avon struggling with himself
or any of the stuff we fen see. She saw a
nasty little man coolly murdering his boyfriend
'cos he was inconvenient.

She loved him.

Actually, that's pretty close to my idea,
but I'm very fond of Avon. That's why
I finally decided he and Rene were avatars.

I like Blake ok in the show, but I've been
prejudiced against him by never finding
a Blake in fanfic that I could like. Besides,
he don't treat Vila with enough respect,
and he was a prat after Gan's death.

That's a very interesting question and I can't remember anything in the
series
to give you an exact handle on time. However, I assumed that quite a bit of
time
passed between some of the early episodes because they were trying to work
out how to fly Liberator and by episode 4 (Time Squad) they were all quite
competent
at the controls - remember Avon manually docking the time capsule when Zen
stopped working?

On the other hand, some episodes carry straight on e.g. Deliverance and
Orac, and then into the second series with Redemption right on its heels.
Although the spooky thing there is that although the storyline seems to
carry straight on, they all completely change their wardrobe!

Actually appearance is one of the things which make it difficult to be sure
because I
don't recall many changes in looks or hairstyle and you would think if
several stressful
years had passed they would show more wear and tear.

Avon is excepted from this comment because I think he _does_ age in the
series. I don't mean from the point of view of him getting greyer or fatter
or anything, just that towards the end, the strain and responsibility of
leadership give him an air of being much older with even more gravitas, if
that is possible.Compare he and Vila's actions in 'Gambit' when they ran
the casino scam with Avon in 4th series, there is no way I can imagine him
being so frivolous towards the end.

Three years! Wow I did not image that long between Star One and StarDrive.
Any suggestions where most of the time was spent?

The time in this I always find a bit iffy as follows :-

London is a run of the mill old ship.
Liberator is superb.
After Blake tells Zen to set course for Cygnus Alpha they get there in a
very short time,
remember how amazed they all are at how quickly they have arrived?

However, they still get there _after_ the London. This implies that the
London had
a good start on them - the Liberator must have wallowed about a bit in
space
before they set their course - in fact they probably went several million
spatials in the
wrong direction when Jenna hit that big unlabelled button which made them
go
really fast and pull funny faces.

But overall they must have been on Liberator for quite some time before
they got to
Cygnus Alpha so why did they not discover the teleport until just before
they arrived?
Surely they explored the ship as one of their priorities?

Can anybody help?

I am hurriedly trying to knock together a teleport bracelet in time for
Deliverance and
I have been following the instructions on Kathryn Andersens page. However,
Kathryn gives
a visual reference of the Horizon Technical Manual which I don't have and
am unlikely
to get hold of before next weekend.

Mostly this is not a problem, after all we see them enough on the show.
However, I don't
have a really good picture of one to sort out some details. Like, I think
there is a silver
band down the middle but is there a thin bit of silver round the edge? I
hope so because
I was counting on putting a bit of tape there to disguise the rather uneven
edges on my effort.

Also I am not entirely sure of the relatived positions of the red button
and the grey button.
Are they next to each other across the bracelet :
    __________
          |R|
          |G|
    __________

or along the bracelet :
    ___________

        |R| |G|
    ___________

I am not sure if I could work this out even if I freeze frame the video.

Any hints anyone can provide will be gratefully received. Just don't look
to closely at
the finished product/

In the book Carrot _does_ have orange hair but you are right, his name is
for his
body shape.

The timescale of the series is very self-contradictory, especially after
the Intergalactic War (which by implication lasted only a few hours or
several months, depending on which episode you want to believe) but I'll
give it a shot.

There are six months between The Way Back and Cygnus Alpha (the length of
the journey from Earth)

There's a further 18 months until Voice From The Past, according to Ven
Glynd in the latter episode. (Two years after The Way Back)

Star One has been malfunctioning for two months (sixty days), so can
probably assume that that is the gap between Gambit and Star One (or
possibly The Keeper and Star One) if the Andromedans' plans weren't put
into operation until they had already made a deal with Travis.

The Intergalactic War seemed to last only a few hours aboard the Liberator
(everybody's still in the same clothes), but the spread of the fighting
over such a large are of the Federation suggests otherwise. Perhaps a
couple of weeks.

There are then three years until Stardrive (Plaxton worked for the
Federation until it collapsed in the aftermath of the war, then spent three
years on Caspar)

We can assume that, as is TV convention, season 4 lasted a year.

Which all gives us a grand total of about six years, give or take a month
or two.

Sorry about sending the earlier message without the commentary; finger
slipped. All the indications are that the War actually lasted several months.
It seems Servalan and the Federation believed they won the battle, and hence
the War, at the battle of Star One. but based on comments about drifting Ion
Reefs and biological agents in Children of Auron, and the shuttle carrying the
scientists being attacked after leaving the planet in Animals, this seems
incorrect. Most likely a significant percentage of the invasion fleet wandered
off the field of battle, and moved about spreading havoc until destroyed. Thus
we have the Federation and all the outer worlds dependant on Federation trade
suffering the ravages of both the loss of Star One, and the affects of direct
attack by the Andromedans. With the possibility that there are still one or
more functional Andromedan ships out there... D. Rose

If you can't attend the convention, then don't miss out on the website! Over
the weekend, we'll be running
competitions and putting up photos, video and audio clips from the
convention. This is your chance to join
in if you can't make it to the convention!

Everything on the Deliverance site is copyright Deliverance. You will need
to seek the permission of the Convention Committee (i.e. not me!) to use any
of the content from the site elsewhere.

All texts and images (normally) on the Horizon site are copyright Horizon,
with the exception of some of the graphics, which are copyright me! If you
wish to use graphics, video or sound, or quote or paraphrase content from
someone elses site, you should *always* seek the permission of the site
administrator first. If they can't give you permission, they should be able
to point you in the direction of someone who can.

With reference to the Horizon sites, much work has gone into creating these
sites, and we try hard to keep things relevant and useful. Several new
versions of the Horizon site are due to come online soon, catering for all
types of browsers from Lynx through to Java enabled, allowing more people
direct access to information and facilities which will be of interest to
them.

With this amount of work going into something, it's really irritating when
people take your content, and post it on their own sites or distribute it on
mailing lists and newsgroups without so much as a 'do you mind if?'.

I appreciate that in fandom people want to know as much as possible, and
pass information around as much as possible. I have no objection to this, as
long as people *ask* first!

Anyway, before I start to go into rant mode, thanks for asking! If people do
have stuff they want to keep for themselves, please check the site over the
convention weekend. A full copyright statement will be available detailing
what you can and cannot do with the content. This is still being agreed, but
there may well be a clause which allows downloading of images for personal
archive only, as long as access to these images is not made available to
anyone else, and as long as the images are not distributed in any way.

Eventually, all the images, video, sound, and some of the text will be
available on an archive site, and much will be available immediately after
the convention on the 'Post Convention' site.

Peter.

Not mine. I felt her death was inevitable, and that SHE also realised
this fact. That look on her face as she joined the wires...I think she
knew what was going to happen, and continuing was her way of accepting her
fate and doing something useful for humanity again.

I have a different interpretation of this event - I think she was SO
involved in her work (ie the photonic drive development) that the issue of
the pursuit ships attacking and even the task of connecting up the drive to
Scorpio was fairly trivial. I see her mind& real concentration as being
miles away- far more concerned about how she could further develop the
engine once she gets to a new research lab rather than the current
predicament. I really believe the danger didn't register, all she cared
about was the project, not the Space rats, not the pursuit ships, certainly
not the Scorpio.

Also, you'll notice that as the Fed ships arrive, she hesitates
significantly to have a decent look, instead of getting on with the job.
It's as if she's just realised "Ooooh, what's going on here ? They really
are chasing us......, I may have to think about something apart from the
engine development for a while"
The hesitation was also a neat contrivance to shift some of the blame onto
HER for her upcoming death. After all, if she hadn't hesitated, she may
have made the connections before Avon threw the switch. The TV people save
Avon from having the the viewers think he's a cold-hearted killer.
Trevor Hoyle's adaptation novel "Scorpio Attack" also shifts some of the
blame onto Dr Plaxton, he has her dropping her tweezers, delaying the
second last connection.

That was a joke!! The whole heart-of-gold post was a joke! I don't think
anyone believes Avon actually has that heart of gold. Avon is my fave character
and I like him as the ruthless, flawed, emotional cripple that he is. I love
him for the many redeeming qualities he DOES have (which have been posted to
this list many times, so I won't bore the non-Avon fans by posting them again).

I think your friend needs to watch some more episodes. Even Avon's detractors
must admit this is not an accurate description of him. Maybe she should watch
some 3rd and 4th season eps.
