It's so wonderful to see one's own thoughts mirrored in other's
words. I wrote something very similar in my most recent On the
Wing trib.
I think it was recognition of Tarrant's inherent honesty and openness
that convinced Avon to accept him into the crew so readily. It's
not like Avon to give trust so quickly. But he did with Tarrant.
Which may also explain why Avon took Tarrant's charge that Blake
had betrayed them so seriously.

would never abandon a friend.

Paula's checking it out. The problem is that the theatre is in the
middle of the shopping centre and is therefore surrounded by pubs, not
shops. There are some pubs up be the cinema, but that's the other side
of the theatre to the main railway station (Bromley South), by which
route I suspect some people will come. We'll let you know asap re a
suitable venue.

Good. Avon's teeth have been known to annoy me too <smile, no teeth

I've been trying to remember the name of the Fuller's pub on the corner of the
High Street and Church Road, near Allder's - it's probably the nearest to the
theatre (less than 5 mins walk?), but it is the other side of the theatre from
the station.

Actually, the season doesn't officially open until after Labor Day.

After reading all the kicking Vila is fun posts, I'm beginning to
think poor Tarrant missed out on something by not kicking him. Maybe
he should have been kicking him instead of clapping him on the
back (Harvest of Kairos) or putting a snuggly arm about his
shoulder (Terminal).

Piffle, if Tarrant had wanted the ship, he would have taken it.
He let Avon keep it. (Though Tarrant had as much right to claim
it as salvage as Blake had.) Tarrant even helped Avon to keep it
on several occasions. It's a shame that Avon carelessly lost it
over Terminal. Tsk. Liberator would probably have been safer
in Tarrant's hands.

The problem is Vila wants everyone else to do *his* share of the work.
Not that I blame him. It's a good trick if you can pull it off.

You mean Vila? <eg> Yeah, he doesn't command much respect.
He had a tendency to drink on the job. Not pay attention to
teleport pick-up coordinates (which almost got Avon toasted in
Rumours). Beat up on women (Warlord), when they weren't
beating up on him (Power, and was it The Web when Cally gave
him a right to the jaw?). But I still like him. He's
not totally reliable, and he's incredibly lazy, but he's still fun.
And as with the other characters, his flaws make him all the
more interesting.

I can't speak for Tigerm, but I think the straightforward question goes
beyond never abandoning a friend. True, Blake wouldn't do that. But
he might withhold information about plans and missions. He might
twist situations to get others to do his bidding. He wasn't always
a straightforward man. That's a basic difference between Tarrant
and Blake. Tarrant's bluntness often got him trouble, but it
was an honest bluntness.

Since you seem properly motivated, you are a good candidate for
treatment. The first (and only) step in the program is to
spend thirty minutes each day SCUBA diving in shark infested
waters. After prolonged exposure to their teeth, Avon's and
Tarrant's smiles will become quite tolerable.
(Teehee, strike another one up to TN ingenuity. We lure the
bashers in with kindness, then we throw them to the sharks. ;-)

Actually, Tarrant and Vila form a mutual protection society in
season four. Vila even risks Avon's temper by asking him three
times in "Blake" about Tarrant's whereabouts. I think you'll
find that fans are more aggrieved on Vila's behalf than
Vila seems to be. I'm sure Vila realizes that he makes as
many mistakes as Tarrant does, and that people in glass houses
shouldn't throw stones. Vila also recognizes that as harsh
as Tarrant is, that Tarrant would put his own life on the line
for Vila any day of the week. It's Tarrant Vila calls for when
he is in trouble in "Dawn," because he knows Tarrant is the one
most likely to come to his rescue.
Vila's irritation with Tarrant is short-lived. He yaps in
"City," but the conflict is over by the end of the episode.
Contrast that to Vila's long-term upset with Avon after "Orbit."
If Vila views any of his shipmates as malicious, it's Avon.

While I was quite adept at holding my breath in my underwater
hockey days, I shall take your advice to heart. If only
to protect you from TN terror squads.
But do keep an open mind about Tarrant while watching the
rest of the series (you do have access to the rest of
the series, I hope...). If you can forgive Avon all his
faults, Tarrant should be a piece of cake. ;-)

all for the Evil Overlord's resolution that these devices should be set to
go off at a number other than zero, just to give the heroes a false sense
of security.

Who else knows that little scene in "Rumours of Death" where Tarrant is
distracting three troopers so Cally&Dayna&Avon can sneak up and brain them?
He looks absolutely wonderful, gives a absolutely *classic* Tarrant smile
and does this lovely little old fashioned bow to the downed troopers. I
swear, not a single other character could manage to carry it off with such
delightful, memorable *and* downright sexy style.
Other notes from Rumours - the number of quotes here is lovely. And the
crew interraction is too. Proof they all care for Avon. Esp. Tarrant. :)

I'm meeting Steve Kilbane for a drink and to swap vids and comics at
Pages Bar in London on Saturday 26th September and though tis about time
we had another list drink there. If anyone fancies joining us on that
evening, drop me an email and let me know. We'll be going anyway, so
additions just add to the fun.
Pages Bar is on Page Street, London SW1P. Nearest tubes are Pimlico and
Westminster and railway stations Charing Cross, Victoria and Waterloo
are not far away. The No 88 bus, which you can pick up near Piccadilly
Circus, goes right past the door. The C10 bus also goes past the door
and you can get that at Victoria.
I'll probably get there between 5.30 and 6.00pm.

Forgot to mention in the previous post about Pages Bar is that there is
a sci-fi fair at the nearby Westminster Hall on that day. These are like
big dealer rooms with about 100 dealers.

Looks to me like he was shot in the back and was very surprised by it. If it
was a high impact shot them he reacted in just the way one would expect.
As far as I'm concerned, he's pushing up dasies with the rest of them. (unless
I happen to need him alive for a story, in which case I'll work out some way for
the shot to be non-fatal)
But as far as the series goes - they're all dead in my book.
