Works for me. That would make a terrific AU! My mind is whirling thinking
up possible Jenna - Tarrant interactions. The impulsive, pretty, slightly
naif young man (something of a cross between Dayna and Tarrant as seen in
canon) seen through the eyes of a capable, seasoned smuggler who's been
through multiple dangers before and with Blake. I think he'd get right on
her nerves, but she'd be attracted to him, too. But would she be trying to
replace Blake?;-)

It definitely would've added something, er, extra to a particular scene in

Hi All

Carol Kinkade asked me to forward the message below to the lists since she is
still in England and won't be able to re-subscribe til she returns to the
states.

Thank you
Jim Ma

-------------------------------

Hello Everyone

I don't know if you remember me. I was on SC and lysator for a while. My name
is Carol Kinkade, I posted under the name Carol K. I unsubbed several months
ago when I left for England.

While I'm in England I don't have easy access to my email so I only just got the
messge from Jim Ma telling me what's going on. I'm hoping I can clear up a
misunderstanding.

Stefanie Price (Stefi@aol.com) hasn't seen any of the mail generated by her post
but she is as distressed as I am to learn that it was interpreted as reflecting
our feelings. Nothing could be further from the truth. Stefanie and I wrote
this story one night as a giddy little round robin. We just kept mailing bits
of it back and forth to each other and before we knew it, we had a story.

For a theme we wanted to think of something that *had* been complained about.
It was just chance that we chose "not getting a reply" -- as I recall, we
chose that mostly because it was the best thing we could find to have Vila whine
about. We considered personal attacks, off topic, abusive language -- we even
considered Tarrant bashing (considering, I have since become friends with the
wonderful Carol McCoy, I'm really glad we didn't choose that one :) ).

So we were all (our whole group) taken aback when we learned our story was
considered a criticism of the elists and the people on them. Please understand
that that is not true. This story was written months ago and I haven't read it
since we wrote it, and haven't yet had a chance to reread it to see if it is
really that objectionable. :( But it was only *intended* as a silly little
story.

We have resolved our problems (somewhat) with the element that was making the
elist difficult for us. I'm sorry Jim brought that up on the list. I think
it's something we can put behind us.

The B7 fandom is one of the most joyous things in my/our life. I would never
want anyone to think that I or my friends hold ill feelings toward anyone or
anything connected with it.

Jim tells me that the responses have been sympathetic, tolerant, and full of
good wishes. I'm impressed beyond words that so much caring could be shown when
it was believed that Stefanie was being so critical.

Jim also tells me that the list has really been swingin'; lots of good stories
and everyone having a good time. I don't want to feel responsible for bringing
dissent so...LET'S GET BACK TO THE PARTY!!! ;)

So...does this mean we're good writers or bad writers???

Carol K
*Still 100% Avon*

P.S. Stefanie unsubbed because she and her husband are going to Germany
for two months. Not because she was unhappy.

Very well done Kathryn, I thought your characterization was spot on...

Hello everyone

First it's flamboyance and the Leo starsign (by the way, Nicola, think
"mice" and not "pussycats" for the non-flamboyant variety); now it's
"are you a cat or dog person?" I'm afraid I like both - meaning animals
and Blake's 7 characters. They have their respective advantages and
disadvantages.

Regards
Joanne (still in birthday mode until she has to make the decision on
which Pie in the Sky episodes are to be wiped from the family video
tapes)

PS: speaking of Pie in the Sky, I'm ashamed to say I completely failed
to recognise Paul Darrow the first time I saw his episode. Two weeks
later, though, it was damn easy to recognise Stephen Pacey. I can
remember wondering whether there was anything in his cellar.

This has been a very entertaining thread, and I've loved all the additional
story lines (especially Kathryn's recent addition). You're not alone
Doug... though it didn't take me all day... :-) (Relle batts her
eyelashes and tries to look innocent.)

I'm loving the Shakespeare/B7 stuff too. Iago strikes me as much more
poisonous than Avon, who does, after all, have his redeeming features. It
comes as no surprise, however, to find that PD has played Iago on stage.

Vila should play the Fool to Blake's King Lear, perhaps - and I should very
much like to see Servalan's Goneral. On second thoughts, Jenna gone bad
would be a lovely Goneral, and Servalan can be the vicious Regan, and we
can leave Cordelia to Cally. Avon would have to be Edmund I suppose...

It has been suggested to me that Hotspur is a good Tarrant-type.

It still doesn't seem anywhere near nasty enough, though. She could
have said that aloud. I think you have to look at what they were saying
just before the incident. He says something like "I can be very
accomodating," she says something like "I'm sure you can," then puts on
a sly grin and whispers something in his ear. How about

"Arco tells me you're extremely accomodating,"

or some other kind of innuendo? That might explain the sudden change in
Raiker's mood.

You've nothing to fear on that score. This Tarrant Nostran is very
fond of Servalan. She's my idol, and that's without even
considering the good taste she showed when she enjoyed Tarrant.

The fourth-season "pregnant" dandelion haircut is also open to
criticism. :) Though it has an appeal for its reality factor--
it fits the image of rebels on the run who couldn't get to
the local hairstyling salon on a regular basis.

Steven mentioned the haircut at Visions, wailing "Why didn't
someone tell me to get it cut?" He said the makeup person for
fourth season (not Sheelagh Wells) couldn't see. He had to
keep pointing out that she was sending him onto the set with
smudges on his face. (The implication was that she was also
responsible for hair.)

I think Raiker also says something to the effect of "Why make it hard on
yourself?" To which Jenna replies "Why indeed?"

So, perhaps what she whispers to him is some play on the words "hard on" or
a lack thereof??

Am I going too far with this? I'm very new to this list.

Ahh, but swearing *can* be *very* creative! I can't see Jenna or Avon just
letting of a stream of expletives either, but I could imagine them using
swear words in an amusing way, as part of play on words. Dayna, Blake and
Soolin I could see swearing savagely, although in Soolin's case it would
probably single swear words with intense venom behind them.

I'm not sure I can picture Jenna "cursing a blue streak." I think she's more
creative than that, and would see witty rejoinders as better putdowns than
profanity. Most of the favorite scenes with Jenna that people have mentioned have
in common that she's got great lines and shoots other characters' words back at
them in a clever way.
Similarly, I think Avon would only swear a lot if he were in a desperate way. He
seems too fond of verbal dexterity to use the same old curses. He's often written
that way in fanfic -- lying injured, he comes up with some sarcastic quip rather
than cursing.

I notice Horizon are now selling audio tapes of Childhood's End.

Tarrant fans may want to check this out. I heard in when it was broadcast on
the radio and thought it was very good. (and I'm not a Tarrant fan, so I'd
actually recommend it simply as a well produced SF play that stands well on its
own merits)

Steven's far better in this than in the Sevenfold Crown.

I disagree with Katharine. I don't think Blake was flirting with Inga in
'Hostage'. The more I see that episode, the more it comes across as cousinly
affection and not romance.

I think Jenna was annoyed because she only saw them together for a few moments
and read it the wrong way. I think the kiss is actually on hte cheek and not on
the lips even, though I'd have to watch again to be certain.

Jenna and Blake may well not have had a sexual relationship. I think there was
attraction on both sides, but Blake was very focused on his fight against the
Federation and that may not allowed him to fully commit himself anywhere else.

Would Jenna have settled for a casual relationship? How do people see her in
this regard? (I think she might have done, but that Blake was an all or nothing
man)

I'd agree with Roger that Jenna might be really foul-mouthed in a move, though I
disagree about Avon. I don't see Avon as swearing at all. He doesn't need to
with his ability at sarcasm.

Actually, has it become a cliche that strong woman have to swear a lot just to
prove that they are tough?
