Yes, but in all that tight leather gear what we really
want to know is how does he avoid VPL?

I had to buy special undies and they are still not 100%.

No don't anyone make the obvious suggestion.

I watched it at a private party with lots of people. Did I get
some nasty looks when I jumped up and cheered Romania's
winner.

Quote from Carol McCoy: We have to give Joanne points for noting
Tarrant's prettiness and for her willingness to keep an open mind. Both
indicate to me a potential for self-conversion, sparing us the need to
kidnap and reprogram her. ;-)

Erm, Carol, how long are you prepared to wait? I'd hate to disappoint
anyone generous enough to spare me from kidnapping.

As for my response to Deborah Rose's comment, I suspect it comes across
as a disjointed rant. What I should have said is that that scene in
"Headhunter" makes me want to judge Avon harshly, and so I tend to think
of him as a complete bastard in that scene, let alone want to kick him.
You may refer to this as the succinct version of Saturday's lapse in
communication skills. (I shouldn't be trying to write anything while on
a circulation desk shift, especially on a weekday - there are too many
opportunities for me to lose my train of thought completely.)

Think about those who came in later, long after Blake had left. You've
all heard about "Why call it Blake's 7 when there aren't 7 people?" For
me, the story was "Why call it Blake's 7 when there's no one named
Blake?" The things you miss... :)

I can't believe I misspelled Romania. Also I can't believe that my new

Hi People,

I've been on the list for a few weeks, this is my first posting. Greetings from Scotland! After
the last few football-related postings, my question is :-

Which World Cup football team is your favourite B7 character...?

My 2c worth :-

Blake : Scotland - Shows great character in the face of insurmountable odds only to fail at the
end (sorry Gareth, Wales didn't make it...)

Vila : Romania - underrated, unnoticed, overlooked, but finally pulls out a result against all
expectation...

Avon : Argentina - silent, cynical, lurking, does nothing for much of the time before surfacing
and delivering a killer blow...

Cally : Nigeria - beautiful, stylish, but always vunerable against a swift counter-attack.

Jenna : Holland - lovely, sophisticated, an easy winner theoretically, but prone to not
asserting themselves in the vital area.

Tarrant : USA - Clever, talented, flash, talks a good game. But always outplayed by those with
experience.

Soolin : Brazil - swift, silent, never expends more effort than necessary, winner!

Dayna : Yugoslavia - skilful, talented, lacks a killer instinct at the end of the day.

Gan : England - solid, dependable, prepared to sweat blood - but ultimately lacking in
imagination.

Zen : Italy - the most clever of them all, always assumed to have a rock-solid defence. But
fatally falls at the last hurdle.

Slave : Belgium - honest workhorse, but no imagination, never advances beyond the status quo.

Servalan : Germany - everyone wants to write then off, but know they will *always* come from
under the hammer to grind out a result at the end of the day

Travis : Spain - theoretically the most deadly of enemies. But never achieve as much as they
could...

Anyway, that's my 2c worth. I'm not dissing anyone's national side - I'm Welsh and we went out
long ago...

Keep the Faith!!!!

Phil Jones

Spotted Steven Pacey in today's edition of the Cuckoo waltz on Granada Plus.
He was playing a character called Ricky, sporting an extreme tie and a
terrible haircut (the curls really suited him better!). Don't know exactly
when these were made - early to mid seventies judging by the clothes. It seems
to be on every day at 1 p.m. but I don't know whether he'll be in it again as
he seemed to be a guest character.

What made the first two seasons come alive was the active and vibrant
interaction of Blake and Avon. But it took Avon to ignite the fire. If there
had been no Avon in the first two seasons there would have been no excitement,
no ''soul' --

I like Blake and I was sorry to see him leave, but (for me anyway) the show
didn't lose anything by his absence. It simply went in another direction and
introduced a lot of new and interesting elements. The 'soul' of the show
really would have been lost if it had been Avon who left instead of Blake.

Just thought I`d mention, for those that are interested, that the advert
for Walkers Cheetos has just aired during C4s Big Breakfast. I only
caught the end of it (long enough to recognise Paul Darrow`s voice), it
is a cartoon type ad, doesn`t have the Spice Girls in (they must be
doing a seperate ad campaign for the same product).
Time to clear up after breakfast.

Hurrah! This is exactly the kind of question I like, and your
correspondences are great too!

I did a 'which premier division teams correspond to which B7 characters?',
on the other list a while ago. I'll perhaps put it out again?

That is my favourite one.

And this one too.

But I don't think the USA showed as much flair as we expect from the boy
pilot. Though I suppose all rushing forward at once, and forgetting to
protect their rear.. might be vaguely reminiscent

What about Jamaica for Tarrant? Dead flash and popular, raised high
expectations. Then crashed.

> Dayna : Yugoslavia - skilful, talented, lacks a killer instinct at the
end of the day.

I don't think Dayna lacks a killer instinct. I'd go for Cameroon. Young,
inexperienced, and prepared to use violence.

Yeah. And always bloody lucky too.

                    To All:
Ok. I am very new at this- painfully so. I watched this show, way
back in the late 80s when I was fourteen( WNYC 25 in New York City,
saturday nights.)- and I thought Blake was like my good uncle Rodrigo,
who always gave good, idealistic advice about life, and Avon was like my
bad uncle Alman, who was handsome, smart, gay( yes, I know the character
and the actor are not gay) and said the most outrageous things polite
people would never dare to say in polite society. I would call my
friends up, sneek down my mom's basement and watched the crew of
criminals trying to break down an oppressive regime. Quite perfect for a
teenager...
But so was Trek, with it's special effects, cool uniforms and sleek
ship. And the resident alien, Spock, commenting on the behavior of
everyone else sometimes had a sharp and telling point about how we
behave.
When I got much older, went to college and travelled around for my
education, i started to see tv differently. (No, i will not become
boring philosophical or try to impress you all with grad school
speak-just some observations I made, most of which may be blindingly
obvious)Whereas Trek celebrates this one world government that has made
all of the ills of society almost non-exisent, and celebrates the useful
and helpful aspects of technology, Blake's 7 seems to be a more telling
and slightly more realistic view of the future as it could be.
Here in the United States, where a person's function and proximity
to wealth is prized along with shallow patriotism and even more shallow
spirituality, blake's 7 seems to be a dark shadow of what happens when
we devalue individuality and participation in government and start
putting more value on corporations and where they can take us today.
Oh dear- I have become boring. Blame it on being an earnest 24 year
old. Of course, B7 sets and costumes are funny than hell- and talk about
a bad hair day...on Trek, there no such thing as a bad set or a bad hair
day.
Anyway, so much for my rambling, dijointed introduction. Thanks for
letting me join your list.

I only remember this vaguely from a long time ago but I think he might
have been a semi-regular character.

I am basing this assumption on the fact that a while ago I too caught a
few minutes of the Cuckoo Waltz on Granada Plus and Steven Pacey
was in that one as well - as a football reporter I think.

Of course this could just be another example of that phenomenon where
you have only ever see one episode of a program and the next time the
series is repeated you catch exactly the same episode again.
(Except you caught it not me - oh well perhaps you see what I mean)

Actually I think I read that Josette Simon did a few episodes in the Cuckoo
Waltz - so that must have been after B7 - but I am sure it is older than
that -
oh dear can someone more knowledgable take over.
