What country do you live in?

If you're in the USA, Linda Knights is a good starting point as she agents for
most of the Blake's 7 publishers in the USA. Can't remember her web page, but
it's linked from mine and her zines are listed on my page anyway.

If you live in the UK, you can get zines from me, Avon or Horizon.

If you live in Australia, contact Pat Fenech.

Details of virtually every fanzine in print and where to buy it can be found on
my web page http://www.hermit.org/Blakes7

I checked MVC and Virgin today at lunchtime, and I'm afraid that there were
stickers there too - I think it's Fabulous Films sticking!

It can be a story.
It can be a joke
a character sketch
a 'what if they were all (drinks/cars/David Bowie songs)..'
a favourite bit of dialogue, if you can trim it to 49 words.

You can add your name
or a pseudonym
or be anonymous

I was there as well. I was the one who caught the bow when it landed on
the front row. Criminal thoughts ran thru my head.... Will it fit under
my coat? If I stick it down my trouser leg, will the resultant limp be
too obvious? Has anyone noticed that I`ve actually got it? (Duh! it`s 3
foot long!!) Can I mug the gentleman two seats down with the arrow, so
that I can have both?
Reluctantly, I pushed the bow back onto the set as the lights went up.
The arrow followed, also with reluctance I thought!

Don't talk to me about Cable and Wireless, or their queues for customer
service. We have now cancelled both our cable tv and cable phone line, due
to their incompetence. Our dispute with them threatens to end in court.
Funny, before Nynex were absorbed by them, we had no problems at all.
Friends still with Cable and Wireless complain repeatedly about loss of
picture. Hey ho, back to the satellite dish I go... You have my sympathies.

I've been reading through an interesting book I picked up at
MediaWest. It's Joan Marie Verba, =Boldly Writing: A Trekker Fan
and Zine History, 1967-1987= (FTL Publications, 1996; ISBN 0-
 9653575-0-3). It's exactly what it sounds like-- a year-by-year
history of the first twenty years of Star Trek fandom, rather dryly
written but very full and accurate. How I wish someone would do
something similar for B7 fandom! But I suppose it would take
someone who was in on it from the start, has saved everything, and
is very detail-minded; and I'm not sure such a person exists.

Do we have a Joan Marie Verba in B7, who can tell the rest of us
 what happened when?

(In case anyone is interested in =Boldly Writing=, it can be ordered
from the publisher for US $12.95 including domestic postage. The
address is: FTL Publications, P.O. Box 1363, Minnetonka, MN
 55345-0363.)

Steve, is WD-40 or something equivalent available in Britain? This is a
spray-on substance that, well, unsticks things. The labeling on the can
says that it can be used to remove stick-on labels, but I've never tried it
for such a purpose myself. I can testify that it works wonderfully well on
locks that keys stick in, as well as other small mechanical parts that don't
move as smoothly as they should.

I bet Vila has something like it amongst his tools. :)

Please, please, let it be available in Britain. Item number one on my home
toolkit shopping list - a can of WD-40.

Nor I. I imagine there'd be some risk of it dissolving the ink on the
label? Probably best to spray some onto a soft cloth or paper towel and rub
the label off carefully, rather than splashing the stuff all over the place.

Amen! I recently had trouble with the front door lock - had visions of the
trouble being due to a worn key, endless hassles with locksmiths looming on
the horizon. One wee squirt of WD-40 made it all better :-)

>I bet Vila has something like it amongst his tools. :)

Of course he has :-) - he knows his trade.

Twice a year, at New Year, and on her birthday, the Queen issues a list
of people being "honoured". They get Knighthoods (like Sir Paul
McCartney, Sir Elton John, - Bob Geldof got one, but because he comes
from Eire, rather than Northern Ireland, he can`t officially be called
SIR, but everybody does), or they get OBEs or MBEs. The OBE`s and MBE`s
are referred to as "Gongs" (the recipients get referred to as Terry
Pratchet OBE, or Terry Pratchet MBE -I don`t know which medal he got!).
A lot of well known people get these gongs, but so do an awful lot of
*normal* people (probably a lot more than celebs, but the celebs are
more well known so draw the media attention).

Steve, Virgin in Bromley didn't do this, as I got an unsullied copy from
there when it was first released. Don't know about HMV as they haven't
got it in stock, and the shop staff in Bromley don't appear to be
terribly interested in when/whether it might appear.

Others have commented on local supply difficulties - that has been
noticeable around here too. WH Smith, HMV and Woolworths have all yet to
stock the fifth video in Bromley. When I ask, they all say they can
order it but it may take some time.

So I said no thanks, you're supposed to be a shop, not a mail order
catalogue, and went to Virgin instead. Even they were a bit slow
catching up with the release of 5, as some of you were talking about
having bought it before I'd seen it anywhere.

Paula (relurking now).

I think one of the reasons that Blake does not seem to suffer the expected
stigma over his charges is that the Federation is so corrupt at this point
that only the most closed-minded or sheltered individuals can ignore what is
happening. Thus a " if the Federation said he did it he must be innocent"
attitude.
On the other hand, how often did the crew deal with outsiders who would be
inclined to believe the Federation? Avalon's people wouldn't, Sarkoff might
not have been aware of the exact charges( with Blake's first trial more likely
to be known to him)? In Killer, the greeting he got was interesting too. Of
course, this was by a first rate scientist who chose relative exile over
working with the Federation, apparantly.
The situation on the London is even more intriguing. True criminals rarely
have a fondness for political prisoners; after all politics might change and a
former prisoner may end up in charge, while the criminal lingers on. So even
if they were cynical enough to not believe the charges, I'd expect that they'd
use it as an excuse to abuse Blake. An Alpha, and a child abuser!
The only things I can see that might have saved Blake was 1) the prisoner's
sex drive were all but nulled by the suppressents and 2) Blake's clique was
the biggest around. Certainly it was during this time that Gan earned his
place on the Liberator, defending Blake, Jenna, and even Avon.(subthread; did
Avon read Blake's protection of him via Gan et.al. as a debt he hadn't repaid,
even if it were unasked for help?) After 4 months, I would expect most of the
people who are around Blake eventually realize he indeed is not guilty of the
crime indicated.

[Jacqueline Thijsen] I've been thinking about this subject and I think the reason Blakes conviction was never an issue may be far more depressing: if a regime is as corrupt as the federation, than people need heroes who stand up to that regime. They will then simply ignore any news or even evidence of any atrocities committed by those heroes. A real-life example of this is Mrs. Mandela, who was still worshipped by her fans, no matter what the news said about her involvement with the death of Stompie Seipei. Mind me, I don't know if she actually did anything wrong. My point is that nobody cared about evidence and simply believed she was innocent.
I think something very like this must have happened with Blake

Bye,

Jacqueline

Here's the response I got back from the BBC. I was really impressed
they got back to me that quickly, maybe it's because it didn't have Dr.
Who in the subject ;-)

I have registered your disappointment that the above programme was
displaced due to our coverage of tennis overrunning. I am afraid that
it has not been scheduled yet, so may I suggest you keep an eye on
programme announcements for the most up-to-date information.

I was rather upset that the latest installment of Lost in Space was
cancelled due to Tennis. It featured a look at Blake's 7 fandom that I
was rather looking forwards to seeing. Please don't cancel serious
programming for Tennis again (it's a really boring spectator sport
anyway).

Thanks

Jacqueline Thijsen gave a very interesting reason why Blake's conviction
was not an issue amongst rebels:

I've been thinking about this subject and I think the reason Blakes
conviction was never an issue may be far more depressing: if a regime is as
corrupt as the federation, than people need heroes who stand up to that
regime. They will then simply ignore any news or even evidence of any
atrocities committed by those heroes. A real-life example of this is Mrs.
Mandela, who was still worshipped by her fans, no matter what the news said
about her involvement with the death of Stompie Seipei. Mind me, I don't
know if she actually did anything wrong. My point is that nobody cared about
evidence and simply believed she was innocent.

Well argued, Jacqueline! I don't know if you read that the same thing
seems to be happening to Daniel Ortega, the former President of Nicaragua,
who has been accused of sexual abuse by his stepdaughter. Instead of waiting
to see what evidence there was, people have divided into two camps,
depending on their political opposition to or support for him. Again, his
political supporters trumpet his innocence, which is fair enough on one
level (a person is innocent until proven guilty) but are also making unfair
accusations against the stepdaughter, alleging she has done this for
political reasons.

                                                                Murray

Yes - word for word the same answer that I got.
Notice that the reply says nothing in it about Blake 7 - don't you get
the impression that this is the standard announcement used for any
programme cancellations?
