Maybe it was still damaged. Zen only said the main weaponary had been
fixed, which could possibly imply it had only recently been repaired, and
you'd fix the main weaponary before you fix the burglar alarm, wouldn't
you? Maybe it wasn't working till long after Avon & Dayna came on board.

Since you ask so nicely... :)

Orac/Zen
Jean Graham, "'T' (The Ultimate Slash Story)" (O/Z; humor),
 AVON'S GADGET WORKS
      Kerrvert, "Everybody Gets It in the End" (A/B, G/V, C/J, O/Z;
 humor), SOUTHERN COMFORT #5.5 (1990)
Pete and RePete, "TWZ III: Caro's Campaign" (A/C, A/O, O/Z,
C/V, B/Se, Totally Weird Zone, AU humor), AQUATAR #2 (1990)
Liz Sharpe, "Parts Is Parts" (O/Z; humor), FORBIDDEN STAR
 (1995)
Sonia, "Up in (Blue) Smoke" (A/B/C threeway, J/V, O/Z),
 SOUTHERN COMFORT #6.5 (1991)

The best of these, IMO, is Liz Sharpe's delightful "Parts Is
Parts," which made its debut on the Space City list before
Judith snapped it up for zine publication.

And while we're at it, here are the pairings I've found for Orac
 and various individual crew members:

Avon/Orac
      Natasha Barry, "Found Wanting" (A/B, B/J, A/C, A/V, C/V, A/O),
 RESISTANCE #5 (1991)
Jane Carnall, "Valentine" (A/O), TOUCHED #4 (mm, 1985)
Cathy Conrad, "An Electric Affair" (A/O; humor), THE LAUGHING
 MUTOID #1 (1988)
      Mary Gerstner & April Giordano, "More Than Friends" (A/O;
humor), SOUTHERN LIGHTS SPECIAL #4.5 (1988)
Carol Grasgreen, Carol McCoy, Terri Halasz, & Angela Reese,
"Avon and the Brat Pack, Part One: The Pajama Party" (A/O; humor),
 THE LAUGHING MUTOID #5 (1990)
Pete and RePete, "TWZ III: Caro's Campaign" (A/C, A/O, O/Z,
C/V, B/Se, Totally Weird Zone, AU humor), AQUATAR #2 (1990)

Cally/Orac
      Angela Reese, "Orac" (D/O, C/O), AQUATAR #1 (1988)

Dayna/Orac
      Angela Reese, "Orac" (D/O, C/O), AQUATAR #1 (1988)

Orac/Tarrant
Carnella & Comatose, "Tarrant the Terrific" (O/Ta; humor),
 SOUTHERN COMFORT #6.5 (1991)

Orac/original character (gender unspecified)
Meredith Dixon, "Sleeping Around" (O/oc; humor), FORBIDDEN
 STAR #2 (1997.12)

And here's what Zen's gotten up to without Orac:

Avon/Zen
      Cathy Conrad, "Cupid's Choice" (B/J, A/C, J/V, A/Z; humor),
 THE LAUGHING MUTOID #4 (1989)

Jenna/Zen
Liz A. Vogel, "Design Specifications" (J/Z), STRAIGHT BLAKE'S
 #2 (1995)

There are also at least two fannish music videos of the Avon/Orac pairing
(to "Automatic" and "Plastic Fantastic Lover;" also part of "Stuck with
You," in a vid that pairs off the entire Scorpio crew: Dayna/Vila,
Soolin/Tarrant, Avon/Orac), and I've seen one that hints at Vila/Orac. You
know that scene in Ultraworld where Vila is teaching Orac jokes? He's
leaning back on the couch, heaving with laughter, with Orac in the
foreground? Imagine that to a soundtrack saying solemnly, "People are still
having sex..."

We have <grin>. I think I've seen two Zen/Oac and one Orac/Slave. The bit
about binary exchange of date and meshing interfaces was particularly
stimulating <bigger grin>.

I think this another blantant example of how the BBC abuses it's policy with
regard to advertising. I bet Levi's got millions for that shot of their tag
when Jenna wiggles her bum in the direction of the camera.

Disgusting. I'm going to write to my MP.

Can anyone help me with a piece I'm writing for the next
Redemption progress report. It will look at the links between
Blake's 7 and Babylon 5, including the influences of one on the
other. It will mention the Drazi Sunhawk that was based on the
Liberator and appeared in Deathwalker and again in numbers in
the episode Paragon of Animals that Channel 4 showed this
week (talk about sky full of Liberators). It will also mention
Christopher Neame, who I think is the only actor to have
appeared in both shows.

What I want from you lot is any other links, particularly in
dialogue. I've heard it mentioned that there are bits of dialogue
in B5 that were clearly influenced by B7. Can anyone provide
me with examples?

Thanks in advance for your help.

cheers

But they often had strangers on board Liberator. Cally, Avalon, Sarkoff etc.
Some of these were not expected by Zen, but they were still not attacked. Thus,
it would seem that if a group was allowed on board, there was a tacit assumption
by Zen that its members were not to be attacked.

Indeed, it is possible that the defence system was non-discriminatory and could
only be set to on or off. Thus, if it was on, it would attack anyone who came
on board the ship, including members of the crew.

For instance, it was not used against the Amagons.

I wonder who activated it in Dawn of the gods? None of the crew were on board
at that point, which seems to fit the requirements for its safe use. Perhaps
Orac ordered the activation. He certainly knew what was going to happen.

What about the logo? I think the B5 lettering looks very similiar to the
4th season Blake's 7, enough to believe it was an influence.

Hasn't Vila been seen sporting brown Levi boots in one episode? I can't
remember the one but I remember thinking that the company must be doing
well!

Don't know about the Levi boots, but check out Vila's 4th series
belt-buckle (very obvious in some photographs). Nice to know that Honda
motorcycles will still be around in so many years time, isn't it?

I plan to write a story involving this one of these days (it would be my
first, so don't hold your breath). My theory is that in DOTG, the defence
mechanism is activated when someone attempts to *physically* harm the ship.
It had been activated pre-Space Fall by some other agency trying to attack
the ship from within, and remained active until someone linked with the
ship again, or until Zen turned it off.
