The reference is just a tossed out reference, the character does not
appear. It was something like, "as Ayvon of the Seven said, 'I am not
expendable, I am not stupid and I am not going'" -- said by Kira in
the DS9 novel, "The Siege".
However, Sharon Eckman (and Harrison A. Miles) picked up on this and
did a DS9/Blake's 7 crossover, "Seas of God" in The Web #3. It was
excellent -- and has quenched any desire I felt to do the Blake's 7/TNG
crossover I was working on a few years ago, because they've already
done it, and done it right. Hotbed of Bajoran politics, plot and
counter-plot, and everyone's in character -- even Orac (heh, heh,
heh...)

Please note - this is an advance notice of a zine with explicit homosexual
content. One or two of the stories are pretty extreme even by slash standards
(ie. rape, death, etc.).
If you haven't read slash before and don't read pornography, then I wouldn't
recommend this as a first foray into slash. If on the other hand, you like
graphic male sex with the occasional bit of violence, then you're going to enjoy
this. (This is from the same publishing house at Dark Fantasies) Not all of the
stories are extreme by any means, but there's at least one that's pretty heavy.

"All Work and No Play" by Mireille: "I'm bored. Are you sure there's no wine?"
Tarrant didn't even bother to look up from Scorpio's controls. "You've
been looking for three hours. If there is, it must be the galactic hide and seek
champion."
"Battle Fatigue" by Irish: When Tarrant turned to fetch a tool Avon wanted, he
heard a sharp popping sound as the cover plate blew off the panel. The explosion
shoved Avon into him and they both went down in a disheveled heap.
"Expendable" by Vanessa Mullen: With a fluid, long-armed grab, Avon snatched up
the box of credits. "Quick, Vila. Set me down again."
Vila's jaw dropped. "What?" But he was already responding to Avon's
urgency by squeezing round to his position behind the teleport console.
"Rumours of Courage" by Julia Henry: Well, I do, my lovely Dayna, a pity fuck
really isn't what Avon needs right now. Even if he could raise an ... interest
after what he's been through over the past few days.
"Witch Hunt" by Ebony: There is still a chance that I may cheat death. The
timber may not burn, for only a few have thrown those rare dry sticks. Escape...
"Love's Illusions" by Willa Shakespear: "Why? I already know your
answer." Jenna shook her head. "I can't force you to want me. Any more than Vila
could make me want him. But regardless of personal feelings, you have to take
physical needs into account," she went on more calmly. "As the only experienced
spacer on Liberator, I am advising her captain that the crew desperately
requires a relief stop."
"Relief stop?" Blake asked, puzzled. "No Federation rest and recreation
centre would take us in."
"More likely, they wouldn't let us out," Avon added. "Are you sure this
enforced chastity hasn't given you brain-warp?" he asked Jenna.
"Salvage" by Misha: "What is it, Zen?"
*A single Federation pursuit ship entered maximum sensor range
one-point-one- seven minutes ago.*
Avon slapped Orac's key into its slot and snarled as the machine hummed
into life.
"Orac, why didn't you inform me of that pursuit ship?"
*You requested that I alert you to Space Command flight profiles. That
ship did not file a mission profile and has not checked in with Flight Control
Authorization Centers at any point.*
"Domo" by Gemini: "I'd like to inspect the slaves before the auction." The sun
was hot, the gravity was a touch too high, and Blake wanted to get indoors out
of the heat.
"Of course." Terrin gestured casually towards the low buildings where
the merchandise was housed. His breath smelt faintly of some sort of narcotic.
Did the pirates deal in drugs as well as slaves?
"Path of Thorns" by Mitzi Tick and Felicia Adam: Tarrant had almost died on
Gauda Prime.
Then he truly had died during interrogation.
Each time he'd succumbed to the gentle embrace of death, the Federation
medical personnel--using their most advanced technology--had revived him.

Firstly, many thanks to anyone who replied to my request for
research help - especially Bill Billingsley.
More importantly, I'd like to reply to Jackie, who commented that
if University students where 'real fans' the question asked would be
more specific, and went on to suggest you were being used as 'cheap
researchers'.
Well, University student I may be, but (and I don't know about
Jackie) I happen to be old enough to have watched Blakes7 the first
time around! Just what actually Jackie means by 'real fan' is beyond
me. If by 'fan' she means someone who admires the programme for its
mould breaking style and (usually) excellent scripts then that's me!
Blakes7 is not on any syllabus - I am studying a writing degree for
which I have produced TV, and film scripts and have chosen to study
Blakes7 as an example of good writing.
Jackie ought to be glad a fellow fan is producing such an article,
and even gladder that he is soliciting the opinions of the fans, as
well as the writers. The questions are general becuase I am asking
everybody on the list for their GENERAL thoughts.
As for Jackies comment about wether her cynisism was caused by PMT
- all I can say is I hope so - wouldn't like to think of anyone being
that aggressive all the time.

It's reference in Peter David's novel The Siege (the first original DS9
book. He's Bajoran resistance leader that Kira remembers.

I've just been sent a American copy of one of my zines. It's an unauthorised
copy. Not only is it unauthorised, but the copy quality is poor. The cover
looks good, until you see the original - then it is painfully obvious that it's
a copy.
This copy looks like one of Linda's at a quick glance as it uses a black plastic
spiral binding. However, it is not one of hers. It's easy to tell the
difference as the paper size is wrong.
A4 paper is slightly narrower than US paper and a little taller - this makes the
margins look odd when copying from one to the other.
The difference in paper sizes has also resulted in the artist's signature being
lost from most of the internal art.
If anyone sees a copy of any of my zines printed in the standard US zine size
(except Cheeseboard and Coin which I reproduce with permission from American
originals and is still available from Jean Airey in the US) then please tell
me. If they are reproduced in an American paper size then it is done without my
permission or the permission of the writers and artists.
Linda Knights has permission to reproduce some of my zines, but on A4 paper and
with first generation A4 covers which I mail her from the UK in order to
maintain the quality of the colour reproduction.
I don't yet know whether this zine is a one off or part of a larger print run,
but I hope to find out before long. I invest a lot of time and effort into
producing a good quality zine and quite frankly, there is nothing more likely to
put me off producing future zines than somebody else taking that hard work and
copying it without permission.

Well, if you are genuine, then great! Good luck in your degree exams.
As I mentioned in my original message, yours was the third such request
I`d seen in the last couple of years. The other two were passed on to
me, and I spent a great deal of time answering a lot of questions (some
I thought were downright weird). It cost me a fair packet in postage,
as despite hints no SAE`s were forthcoming. Why did I keep on
replying? I thought that any way of promoting Blakes 7 was a good idea,
and what better way than as part of a Uni degree. With hindsight, it was
probably because I was a sucker. (Well, not this time, I thought when I
read your letter)
What I meant by *real fan* is some-one who has some knowledge and
opinions of their own, and not just asks how to contact the
actor/actresses. Are you not a member of any of the fan clubs? By
joining them you would get all the info you wanted. A long term fan
would have read fan club newsletters which would have answered all your
questions anyway. Especially on the subject of why we think the show
*IS* so popular, and why we think it different from other sci-fi of the
time; or, seeing that we are still fans of the programme, why we think
it different to sci-fi of ANY time.
Remembering a 20 year old programme with fondness, is NOT the same as
being a fan of the programme for 20 years.

but such professional publications as Starburst, Marvel Monthlies, TV
Zone, and Dreamwatch (in all its previous personas) about the programme,
and including interviews with all cast members. Even in other countries
where Blakes7 did not air until years after we Brits saw it, their
relevent professional publications were full of articles and interviews
at the time (ie Starlog etc).

read it?

Love talking (typing?) about Blakes 7. But your letter implied (to me,
at any rate) that we, the fans would be doing the work and all you would
be doing is basically collating.

A quick addition to the Pages Bar thread. I've had a phone call
from them today and they confirm there is no planned ticket
event for June 20th, so we are all systems go. They did warn
me by the way that one of their many TVs (they have at least
four small ones and one big screen one) will probably not be
showing sci-fi, something about a certain big international
football tournament going on that month :-). He said it
shouldn't affect things much, and I checked my fixture list and
found it's Holland vs South Korea, so it shouldn't affect it at
all.

As a recent (well, within the past few years) college student, I think I can
appreciate where he is coming from, and your point of view as well. Quite a
few classes I took my Senior year relield upon individual research
collection, even if the facts had already been collected by someone else. I
personally did quite a bit of research on the holocaust and interviewed
survivors. They had told their stories many times, but it was still
fascinating. Closer to the topic, I seem to recall a media class where I
had to survey television watching habits of fellow students, but I have a
guilty feeling I may have either skipped that paper, or faked it.

There were a couple of queries a while back about the game, featuring as it
does the voices of Paul D and Jacqueline P.
The good news - it's out.
The bad news - it's rubbish. It's at least competent rubbish, but it's
still rubbish. This seems to be the general opinion, and is also the
opinion of a mag I mostly agree with (PC Zone). Unfortunately, it seems to
have gone the way of most tie-ins. So much money and time has been spent on
the music, video, voices and imagery that there was just no time for any
gameplay to rear its cute little head. This is the basic gist of the
reviews:
The game itself is basically an Alone In The Dark clone (or Resident Evil
or Ecstatica), where 3D figures move around 2D pre-rendered backdrops.
There is normally only one character, you, and you wander about picking up
items and doing vaguely adventure-game-like things in a sort of sinsiter
Eastern European circus sort of landscape. Sometimes another character
appears and you have to swordfight them. We've seen it all before,
unfortunately, but we saw it all back when 486/25s were top of the range.
Now, casual games players might like it despite this. But be warned -
you'll need a fairly good PC to play it - a decent 3D graphics card and at
least a Pentium 120, or a really Ninja processor (i.e. P2/300) without a 3D
card. This puts it firmly in the regular gamesplayers league, and it's just
not good enough for that sort of competition.
Get QuakeII, a novice friend, a dark gloomy level, and play "Orbit"
instead. Get Tomb Raider II and imagine it's Soolin in those tight shorts
and stretchy top. Get Longbow 2 and fly around at treetop level, like they
do in "Blake". But don't buy this - it's just not worth it unless you love
Queen, love PD, love JP, _and_ love Alone in the Dark clones.
Shame.

Surely not! I'll agree with the "goodies", but Orbit bad? OK, it's one
massive plot device, but it does have a good payoff. Remember - without
this, we wouldn't get to see Avon at the apogee (ooh - orbital mechanics
pun!) of ruthlessness. And without that, you'd never know how far Avon
would have gone down that path. But now we do know - all the way. Without
passing GO or collecting his harp and wings. I think the fact that the
second-longest-serving member of the crew was about to kill the
longest-serving makes this stand out from the usual stuff. Not often you
get the heroes being bigger bastards than the villains. Crap? Maybe,
depending on how much you hate plot devices. Unmitigated? Not on your life.
Stardrive's last few seconds has a similar excuse, but this is far
outweighted by the first 99% of the thing. Unutterable tripe, I agree. And
we don't need the last few seconds with Orbit around. Mind you, it's a good
precursor for what is to come.
Animals. Yep, straight in the bin. Luckily it's on the same tape as
Stardrive, so that's alright.
Peter Borg pointed out, with some justification:

Except that HoK is saved by the big scary spider. After that, things like
Puff the Magic Dragon in Weapon look positively scary. And the one real
redeeming feature that it fixes the Liberator's top speed at fairly close
to Std*12 (techhie scum that I am). Oh, and it's season 3, not 4. Otherwise
Ultraworld and Dawn of the Gods would be right there at the top of the
list.

There are a lot of new zines in the works so I thought I'd make a general
announcement of what's going to be available in the next few weeks leading up
to MediaWest:
For those Blakes 7 fans among you, there will be a new issue of SOUTHERN SEVEN
(or two!) available at MediaWest. There is a website with artwork at:

yet. Soon!
"Revelations" a new adult Highlander zine will be available sometime before
MediaWest (that's Memorial Day weekend for those of you not in the know). So
far it contains:
"Survivors" by K. Ann Yost (Methos/Avon): A crossover story (with Blakes 7)
set in the future. Methos and Avon are thrown together while trying to escape
from the Federation.
"Voyeur" by Methosia (Duncan/ Methos/ Original Character): Michaelus has a
long-standing interest in and friendship with both Duncan MacLeod and with
Methos. In the wake of Methos' past with the Horsemen being revealed, MacLeod
finds himself unable to deal with his developing desire for Methos. Michaelus
endeavors to assist both of his friends in the only way he knows how…and to
satisfy a few of his own desires along the way.
"A Momentary Lapse of Reason" by Quale (Methos/MacLeod): In the aftermath of
Byron's death at MacLeod's hand, Methos and Duncan have a lot of unresolved
issues. This story originally appeared in the out of print zine, "Walking
Distance."
"The Apocalypse" by Lady Rowena (Methos/Kronos): A story about how Methos
finally leaves the Horseman, told entirely from Kronos' point of view!
"Alone and Palely Loitering" by Riley Cannon (MacLeod/Methos): Methos and
Duncan try to repair their friendship after "Comes a Horseman" and Duncan
learns about how Methos previously knew Darius.
"Judas Kiss" by Cori Lannam (Kronos/Methos): Methos remembers how he left the
Horsemen and considers the nature of betrayal during the time leading up to a
final showdown between himself and Cassandra.
And more stories on the way! Still accepting submissions for a few more weeks.
As you can see, we have a heavy Methos slant and so far all slash. All

The sequel to "Then the Night Comes," "The Lightning's Hand" will be available
in a couple of weeks. Ahriman, a.k.a. Kummaya, has been defeated, our heroes
have returned home for a well-deserved rest, and the ancient Sword of Nuada
has been retrieved. All is well in Duncan MacLeod's world. Even his friends,
some of them deadly enemies of each other, have managed to come to a truce of
sorts. Several months have passed in relative normalcy. Of course, nothing in
MacLeod's world ever stays normal for long! Whilst being moved from David
Shaws' estate to the British Museum, the deadly sword is stolen…and it is
feared that it has fallen back into the hands of an Immortal. MacLeod fears
that Amanda has succumbed to a desire to own the object, while Cassandra
suspects Methos…and, of course, Methos suspects Cassandra, who considered the
sword a sacred relic. Suspects abound and the chase is on to find the culprit!

I find this comment a little odd - "you must be a member of the fan club to
be a fan" -- (kind of reminds me of some unions that used to force workers
to become members). I am not a member of any fan clubs (I'm not sure there
actually are any in Brisbane and I've always found joining overseas clubs
to be a bit of a pest), but I would still count myself as a fan (I've
bought quite a few of the videos, watch them incessantly... and I do have
opinions [I sent a few of them to Christopher] I'm a list member, but then
if I hadn't stumbled across the list a year ago I probably wouldn't be)
Also, for all we know, Christopher might well have opinions of his own --
but in asking us for help, he is hardly likely to suddenly land all of his
opinions on us.

I've never even *heard* of these (except Starlog which I've juist never
seen), and I would still consider myself a fan. I am not a fan of Marvel,
TV Zone or Starburst, but a fan of B7.
Besides even if he was not a fan, if he is doing an assignment on the
reasons B7 proved popular, and he *didn't* ask the largest pool of B7 fans
on the net why we liked it, his lecturers would have good cause for complaint.

Count me in as a very enthusiastic member! (How did I miss the first
post mentioning ASKS?) I am definitely an ASKS, not an ASS (although I
did like calling myself a bad-ASS), nor an ANGEL.
I wonder what Avon would have said to my coworker the other day who
asked me if she could bring up the next screen on her computer by
pressing the enter key? (The answer of course, was yes. I had to choke
back the urge to respond with a paraphrase of Dogbert "You know another
person might have recklessly tried pressing the button before
interrupting me, but I can tell you're special." I patiently told her
yes, yet today, my manager said I'm not open enough to being asked
things.) Sorry, off topic. I'm just surrounded by incompetency and
