In spite of what the BBC information line told me yesterday (no episode for at
least 10 days) the Radio Times that arrived today lists Cygnus Alpha as being on
Saturday 4th March at 2.25

Various bits of news from the March issue of Cult Times in the UK:

Jan Chappell's tour with Les Liaisons Dangereuses will end with a
residency in London's West End, but it doesn't say when.

For US fans, Josette Simon will appear in New York with the Royal
Shakespeare Company during a two week residency starting 10 May and
featuring A Midsummer Night's Dream and Don Carlos.

And, as I think people already know, Steven Pacey will appear in a
Pinter double bill at London's Almeida Theatre from 22 March to 29 April
with Lia Williams from The Uninvited.

Hehe. Funny to see Paul Darrow in a yellow toupee and doing a Dirty Den
impression. <g>

I had to nudge my boyfriend -- the self-proclaimed Blake's 7 fan -- very
hard and say "There he is... isn't he?". I'm only just discovering Blake's 7
you see. My boyfriend was already gutted that he didn't recognise Gareth
Thomas in the first episode, so we promised ourselves to keep an eye out for
Paul Darrow. At least we (I) recognised *him*!

Cally, because…

<10. Cally is prettier than Gan.>

Sez who??? Anorexia may be in fashion now, but I don't have to like it. And
her fashion sense is even worse than his.

<9. Cally is a better medic.>

But Gan a much better comforter, being built like a nice big pillow. Cally's

<8. Cally has just as much a conscience as Gan.>

His just isn't as lazy.

<7. Telepaths can do more than the head-blind.>

<4. There are never enough strong female characters.>

There were never enough *sensible* characters (like errmmm…Gan. And Soolin.

<3. Mystical proverbs are more interesting than exposition.>

Well, I doze through both…

<2. Cally can defend herself.>

Just never against her main attackers, the Mental Menace of the Month.

(this accidentally hit the spam trap the first time I sent it)

Brunton theatre sent me the contact sheet of photos for Twelth Night. If anyone
is interested in ordering copies of the photos with Gareth in, please let me
know which ones you want, but don't send any money until I've worked out postage
costs etc.

The cost is quoted as 4 pounds for a B+W 10x8 and 5 pounds for a colour 10x8.
(But I'm checking as to whether I have to add VAT to that as I got caught that
way once ordering photos from another source.)

I've also been asked for copies of the photo on my web site of Gareth opening
the new gallery. For simplicity, that costs the same price for the same size as
the Twelth Night photos.

These are the photos that I picked out from the contact sheet as most likely to
be of interest:

colour

sheet 1C - 2 Sir Toby Belch and fellow conspiritors hiding behind a clothes
rail.

sheet 2C - 11 sir Toby miming a fist fight, 10 Sir Toby reading a letter (to
Malvolio), 9 close up of him reading letter (letter can't actually be seen), 8
handing back the letter.

black and white

sheet 1 - 9 'Hold thy peace' - a visual Shakesperean pun in which the word peace
is taken as 'piece' and they all decide to hold one another's... I remember
this well from the play <grin>.

sheet 2 - 13 Sir Toby with Maria sitting on his knee, 15 a close up of the head,
9 Sir Toby sitting on the floor drinking red wine out of a bottle. (it was
ribena actually - Gareth said he got through 2 pints of it during the play!)

sheet 4 - 23 close up of Sir Toby with Andrew Aguecheek, 34 conspiritors behind
the clothes rail looking at Malvolio, 30 close up of the people behind the
clothes rail.

sheet 6 - Sir Toby holding Sebastian back from a fight.

for what it's worth, my personal favourites (viewing the photos at a 1 inch
size...) are the colour ones of him reading the letter, the B+W clothes rail
close up, The one of toby drinking on the floor and the closeup head shot. I
think most of them will look pretty good at 8x10 though. I eliminated a lot of
photos that were only middling or poor.

Please send any replies directly to me as I'm still off-list due to
neck/shoulder pain.

All earlier CDs are still available. Send your money to Judith Proctor, 28
Diprose Rd, Corfe Mullen, Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 3QY, England and enjoy the
usual mixture of bad puns, over the top villainry and sexual innuendo.

My earlier 'money back if you give it a try and don't like it' offer went down
well, so I'll repeat it. Try any of the CDs. If it turns out not to be your
sense of humour then return the CD and I'll refund your money minus a pound for
postage (or 1.50 oversesas)

The cover art will be going up on http://www.hermit.org/Blakes7 shortly, but
until then, you can still read reviews of all the earlier CDs in the series and
see the covers for those.

scripts may also be done if there is demand.

PPS. Owing to re-editing work, the new CD won't be ready until March 12th, but
you can order it in advance.

Sally's application for an oak leaf has reached me as a cc.

After due consideration of statements such as

> Gan a much better comforter, being built like a nice big pillow.

> gentle giants are more interesting than faux-otherworldy earth-mothers.

the Gan Defence League has decided that the application is justified. It was a
close call as you don't get oak leaves for knocking the opposition, only for
promoting the excellent qualities of a sadly underestimated gentle and loyal
man, but the recognition of Gan's cuddly qualities and his solid humanity just
made the grade.

for newcommers to the list, I should explain that the Gan Defence League awards
oak leaves (symbolising the strength and virtuous qualities of our hero) to
those who stand up and say positive things about Gan in public and acorns are
awarded to those writing adult stories where Gan actually gets the girl (or
bloke as the case may be).

I'd list prominent holders of the awards, but I'm bound to forget someone.
Let's just say that Kathy Moran is probably the holder of the most oak leaves
and Steve R. does pretty well for acorns.

Hmm. While I can't argue the male fantasy thing, I can poke the latter
a bit: namely, action-oriented, tough, violent responses to a situation
aren't the sole perogative of the male. It's only seen that way because
it's usually portrayed that way.

Not least of which is because it's a damn sight easier to write. There are
countless stories out there that berate the villain for his/her/its violent
tendencies, but is still resolved by having the protagonist thump the
bejaysus out of it/her/him. It happens to be hard to produce stories where
the protagonist eschews violence, and still manages to find a convincing
solution. Witness the close of Genesis of the Daleks.

To whom it may concern (ie those in reach of London in early April)

A couple of weeks ago, when Carol announced she'd be in London to see Mr
Pacey on stage in early April, we mentioned the possibility of a
get-together at Pages Bar on the evening of Saturday, April 8. I'm writing
now to see how many people are seriously interested in this - I've got into
a slightly awkward situation where I'm supposed to be in Nottingham during
the day, but I'd be willing to come back if I knew I was going to see some
fellow-fans!

As far as I know, the suspects so far are Carol (and possibly one or two of
her friends), Calle on a flying work trip to London, maybe Una, me if I
make it back from Nottingham, and Steve if he makes it back from Singapore.

Steve has also pointed out that he's going to Buffy Night at Pages the
following evening, but I know at least some of us non-Londoners would have
gone home by then...

So is anyone else interested at this stage?

Ah, but the delivery of suffering can be marvellous to watch, even if the
other end isn't remotely pretty.

And the ass in this case is figurative anyway.

Besides, anyone who suffers from a mere kick up the arse deserves a regular
booting of the steel-capped industrial variety.
